Sorry for the delayed post, but many of ya’ll probably already know that Sadie has won the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Wednesday.
You go girl! I wish I had the discipline to eat right, work out regularly, and be bathed and groomed daily. It must be amazing to have everyone cheering for you as you prance around with your chubby handler in an artificial park. Alas, I’m a simple city dog that prefers hippie snacks, my bully sticks, and sleeping all day on the couch. Anyway, with congratulations aside, I’m somewhat surprised by Peta’s recent actions to promote shelter dogs at the Westminster Kennel Club. It’s a dog show! I love dog shows, who doesn’t? Where else can you see dogs that have been around since the ancient Egyptians? Or the dogs that many a president has loved? Or that has inspired movies, music, and books? Le sigh.
Well, my gripe with Peta isn’t so much them crashing a lovely dog show, but their use of an outdated and derogatory word- mutt. It’s the 21st century, do we still need to refer to dogs of mixed breeds as mutts? I’m proud of my mixed back ground, so yes Peta, look for your next family pet at your local rescue organization (if you want too, no judgement either way), but don’t call us mutts.
